Removing the Barriers to Effective Coaching For Clients Grieving a Loss

I was recently having lunch with a counselor friend. He told me he had discovered in his coaching practice that before a client could begin to move forward, he always had to explore with them, the significant loses in their life, even if that wasn’t the reason the client originally wanted coaching. If loss and grief were present, he said, the client had to come to terms with loss, before they would ever be able to move forward in their life.

Sometimes as coaches, pastors, counselors, and Stephen Ministers,  we don’t realize how devastating a loss can be, or we downplay the significance. Many times we overlook how hard it is for persons who have lost a loved one to begin to pick up the pieces and begin to more forward again. Helping your client to formulate ways to begin taking steps which will lead to their renewal and healing can be a scary process without specialized training.

Discipleship Processes are designed to give the coach, counselor, pastor, or Stephen Minister a framework for having a discussion about the loss of a loved one. Everyone experiences loss, so the chances are high that you will come in contact with persons who need to resolve grief and loss issues before they can move forward to take action in the area they initially came to you for assistance.

Start off the new year with a gift to youself and to your clients. Don't wait until a grief or loss issue surfaces with a client, only to feel ill equipped to minister to them in this very rewarding niche area. Become a trained grief coach, fully equipped to minister to the needs of your clients.  Learn about a Bible study which will be both a blessing for your local church or small group, and an excellent way to introduce grief coaching to potential cleints in your area. Most importantly, become a member of a growing grief community of like-minded Christians who deisre to minister to the 'widows and orphans' in their distress. Won't you join us for the 3rd Annual Grief and Loss Conference. We have the solution to equip you for ministry.
